A few months ago I posted a piece about the skate ramp that Brett, Todd and I built under the direction of my woodworker/skate enthusiast Jared Rusten.
The Ramp only survived a few short months due to the intolerance of the landlord of the house. It’s a shame. I guess we knew what we were getting into by building a large wooden structure in the backyard of a house that was being rented. Still, having to take it down due to erroneous reasons was infuriating. It’s a long sad story but in short: The landlord told us we were in violation with city ordinances on recreational structures when in fact, we were not. Every time I think of the ramp I get a mixture of emotions ranging from quiet satisfaction to utter outrage. It was something we worked really hard for that was taken away from us prematurely. I will miss those days of going to Brett’s house after work and riding till the sun went down. Here’s a quick video I shot on my super 8 camera of us riding right after it was completed. Yes, we wore helmets and pads. You’ll see why.
